Keep the path from entering the website to an actual sale as short as possible. The more steps there are in between the entry point and the “place order” button, the more likely you are to lose your prospects in the process. Have “Buy Now” and “Add to Cart” buttons everywhere. Once your customers get to your website, stop advertising and start selling!

Security and Reliability

Security and privacy are important concepts for buyers, so it is necessary to address their concerns. Some people worry about the credit card security and identity theft, so make sure your site has a privacy policy section and an online security certificate. Some people would never buy anything online, so present them with an alternative: include your phone number, physical address and an option to buy over the phone. Most importantly, keep on asking yourself the question, “What would I want if I was a buyer”.

Some Internet service providers and hosting companies offer ecommerce services and shopping carts for free. Most of the time the offer comes with a per-transaction fee and the HTML code is hard to customize. What is usually offered is a basic package that is stripped off of all the essential features that are needed to be profitable online – tools that are needed to run an online business on a full scale and not in the sandbox. Should you request these features and try to run a real deal, you’ll soon learn that there is a yearly fee of thousands of dollars. The deal is not so good after all, plus, you are now committed to the service provider that will tap into your profits year after year.
